Post Tropical Storm Irene

September 1, 2011 at 10:00 AM AST

Irene tracked north of Nova Scotia as a post-tropical storm but still brought tropical storm force winds as well as high seas and pounding surf to the province. High winds caused some disruptions to essential services, disrupted air travel and caused ferries to suspend crossings. Inital reports indicate that Irene did not cause major damages or disaster. It can take time for all damages to be fully understood and reported following a major weather event.

Outside of Nova Scotia, Irene caused casualties, flooding and flash flooding, as well as infrastructure damage. The economic impact of Irene in the United States is estimated to be in the billions.
