Criteria for Assistance

  • Individuals, farmers, small business operators and operators of non-profit organizations have a responsibility to take reasonable precautions to ensure their own safety and protection, including their properties.
  • DFA is not intended to replace private insurance coverage and sound risk management. Requests for assistance with damages should first be directed to insurance companies to determine coverage of individual policies.
  • Eligible expenses will be calculated based on the current nominal market costs for the goods and services.
  • These amounts will be established in a cost chart provided at the time the disaster is declared. This cost chart is not all-inclusive and items not specifically mentioned may be referred to the manager of DFA programs for consideration.
  • The specific amounts of assistance and the eligibility of applicants will be established through a detailed claims adjustment process, and will be based on the results of an independent assessment and the information and documentation provided by the applicant.
  • Competitive quotes for claimed costs or original copies of paid receipts may be required in support of assistance requests.
